Rochester, NY, Weather Can Be Brutal —Is "Time to Reseal Our Concrete Patio" on Your Calendar?
Living in Upstate New York can be tough during the winter months. Freeze-thaw cycles can also cause havoc on your concrete surfaces. That's why we recommend that you reseal your concrete patio or other outdoor living space every few years.
If you're not familiar with concrete sealers or CONCRETE DOC+'s sealing and resealing process, we recommend reading this article. Resealing your concrete is important. Having a barrier between the elements and your concrete not only to protects it, but it also keep your concrete patio or walkways looking like new. And if you have a stamped concrete patio, sealing it every few years will bring out the various textures and make the colors more vibrant. Sealing your concrete patio will also protect the surface from stains, sun damage (which can fade colors), and more.
CONCRETE DOC+ ensures that the application process for concrete sealing is done properly — or the sealer will not do the job of protecting your concrete. Here are the steps we take to seal your concrete so it does the job it's supposed to do—to protect your investment and keep your concrete patio looking like new.

#1 - We Prepare the Surface
The first thing the DOC must new is to remove the old sealer. CONCRETE DOC+ uses a environmentally safe sandblasting alternative (a wet abrasive process) to strip away all dirt and any remains of the old sealer. It also etches the concrete surface so that the new sealer adheres properly.
#2 - Adding an Accent Color
This is an optional step, but one worth considering. The time to add an accent color to the surface of your stamped concrete patio is after it has been cleaned and sealer is applied.

#3 - Apply the Concrete Sealer
The concrete sealer is applied once the concrete has totally dried. Then we use a sprayer (or sometimes a roller) to apply a thin layer of sealer. When it's dry, we'll apply another in the opposite direction of our first application.
#4 - We Wait
You'll have to wait a bit before walking on your newly sealed concrete since the sealer must dry and cure completely. We recommend waiting about three days before you resume daily foot traffic on it.

How to Maintain Resealed Concrete
Regular sweeping or hosing it off (and occasionally using a power washer) on your concrete area is recommended. We also recommend resealing your concrete every 2-3 years. This will protect it and extend its lifespan.
